Minor procedures

These are different diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for various ENT & Head-Neck diseases with the help of modern and sophisticated instruments done in the O.P.D. set up without admitting the patient in the ward.

OTOMICROSCOPY

This is Microscopic examination of the ear to examine minute details of the canal and ear drum to identify any perforation, retraction or any other major disease deep in the ear canal which may be missed in routine examination.

MICROSUCTION

This is suction and clearance of the ear canal if there is any fungal debris, pus or other discharge or even simple impacted wax that reveals the status of the deeper part of the ear canal and the ear drum.

NASAL ENDOSCOPY

Any disease in the deeper part of nasal cavity, not properly visible by routine examination are subjected to Nasal Endoscopy. Nasal Endoscope is a rod lens fitted with digital camera and connected with the monitor. This entire assembly of gadgets (made by STORZ, Germany) offers a brilliant picture of the nasal passage right up to the nasopharynx (where nose ends and throat begins) with proper documentation. Nasal endoscopy also enables the doctors to carry out certain therapeutic procedures like removing foreign body from inaccessible area, cauterizing (sealing with chemicals) any bleeding vessels in the nose and so on.

FLEXIBLE FIBER OPTIC LARYNGOSCOPY

Diseases of the vocal cords affects the quality of voice making it husky, hoarse or breathy. It may also cause breathing difficulties if a large growth obstructs the mouth of wind pipe. Common laryngeal diseases include simple laryngitis, nodules/polyps/cysts on the vocal cord, vocal cord paralysis, ulcer or malignant growth on the cord.

Vocal cords are located in deeper part of the throat well below the base of the tongue and is not easily visible by routine throat examination. Flexible fiber optic laryngoscope is a sophisticated instrument that offers a clear view of the hidden laryngeal structures including the vocal cords. A digital camera attached to the laryngoscope documents the laryngeal pathology (if any) and a printed report is generated. Entire procedure is done under local anesthetic sprays within 10-15 minutes and is of great diagnostic importance.

Allergy Clinic

Many patients attend UDICHI clinic with complain of excessive sneezing, runny nose, blocked nose with itching of nose and eyes and are diagnosed to suffer from Allergic rhinitis, either seasonal or perennial. Their symptoms can be controlled temporarily by anti- allergic medicines, intra-nasal corticosteroid sprays and of course avoidance of the allergens which are the causative factors, if known.

Essentially it is the immunoglobulin pattern (our defense mechanism) of these patients which plays important role behind this disease. Therefore identification of allergen for a patient and giving him specific immunotherapy can probably give a reasonable relief to the patient or even may cure, somewhat like a vaccine.

Allergic Skin Prick Test

Here at UDICHI we regularly arrange Allergic Skin Prick Test at our out-patient clinic. This is done by applying various types of common allergens on the fore hand skin with minor scratch in a controlled manner and the reading is taken after about an hour. The scratch which cause more than 3-4 mm of skin rash are taken to be positive and are reported.

Patients are advised to avoid any exposure to those offending agents which are the main cause of his allergic episodes.

Sub Lingual Immunotherapy

After detecting the specific allergens, we advise for specific Immunotherapy medicines to be taken by mouth (below the tongue) in specific doses for a period of 5 to 6 months. The complete course of immunotherapy offers a significant acquired resistance (acquired immunity) to patients against his previous known allergens and may remain free from allergic rhinitis symptoms.
